Well How About That

GALLERY BOOT, Fitzroy, Melbourne

27 Feb - 11 March 2020

Well How About That is an installation that considers structures of dividing and organising, boundaries and binaries within suburban landscapes. The picket fence is an icon of suburbia and an object that maintains certain value systems; working to orientate, align and organise bodies. In this work, the fence is brought inside and turned upside-down. Made from salvaged cardboard and paint, the pickets form pathways across the ceiling and impose a structure as if they were organised suburban stalactites. The work considers the role objects play in binary narratives, such as private/public, and how object and system functions can be changed, set against their own logic and reorientated. Well How About That is the continuation of a series of recent installations by Goodnow producing architectural perspective shifts, function twists and queered objects.
